The Flock

Meet the sheep, meet the family.

The Farm
It's not just our past, it's our future.

A flock established on the foundation of quality genetics and fertile Iowa farmland, the sheep of Bobb Family Farm graze lush pastures free from any pesticides or herbicides and are fed non-gmo alfalfa hay throughout the winter that is produced on the very same farm.

Five generations of shepherds, the Bobb family is rooted in the sustainability of environmental stewardship and animal husbandry, producing a flock of consistent, healthy animals.

Sustainability

Sustainability can mean a lot of different things, but to us it's the very dirt we stand on and the air we breathe.  It's in the ground that our ancestors cared for and toiled on, and it's in the soil that we will pass on to our children and grandchildren.

It's in the decades of genetics that our flock is based on, and the key to each decision we make going forward.  Sustainability isn't just the key to success for our farm, it's the framework that our family legacy is built upon.

The Soil

We converted farmland previously used for intensive row crop purposes to hay and pasture rotations that allow us to maintain minimal erosion and to increase the organic matter content of the soil.  Rotational grazing keeps our pastures healthy, while legume mixes help to naturally fix nitrogen in the soil to feed the multiple grass species without the need for chemical fertilizer.

The only fertilizer that we use is the dry manure produced by our flock in the cold months.  We compost this manure for 6-12 months, turning it about five times to allow for oxygen flow and complete composting of the organic material.  This holistic approach leads to clean, healthy pastures and natural nutrients for our sheep.

The Flock

All of our lambs are born and raised their entire lives here on the farm.  They are never sent off to a large corporate feedlot, never trucked away to be mixed in with the masses.

Our sheep are primarily a combination of purebred Hampshire and Dorset genetic lines.  This provides the optimal balance of meat quality and maternal mothering instincts to raise healthy lambs.  We raise our own ewes for genetic consistency, and bring in only outside rams that we've hand selected from breeding programs that we know and trust.

Family

The greatest blessing of all, family is the rock that our small farm is rooted to.  We are proud to offer fresh, natural lamb from our family, to yours.
